Donaghadee travelled to Grosvenor for their 1st away trip, knowing that only their very best would be good enough to defeat the league leaders. Unfortunately this was not to be the case as a combination of good Grosvenor play and some sloppy work from Donaghadee allowed the home side to open up a 20-point lead within the first quarter.
Donaghadee finally got on the scoreboard towards the end of the first half, after good work from the pack and quick distribution Andy Cash was able to score, converted by Paul Blewitt. However, Grosvenor scored 2 further tries before the break to lead 31-5 at half time.
After a stern talking from some senior heads Donaghadee gave a much better account of themselves in the second half. The team created a lot more chances and defended more resolutely. Although the Dee men conceded the first score of the period they replied strongly with 2 tries, a second from Andy Cash out wide, again converted by Blewitt. The third soon followed after good handling from backs and forwards allowed Elliott Vollands to cross the line, this time converted by Simon Crowe.
The Dee men played well for periods of the game but the poor first quarter allowed a well-drilled Grosvenor team to play on the front foot in the main.
