The Dee’s preparation for the upcoming Towns Cup Final was hampered when they lost to a determined CIYMS side at Donaldson Park. The men from Belmont were chasing a win to secure an All Ireland Junior Cup place next season whilst the Dee remained about eight shy of their probable Cup Final squad through a mixture of minor niggling injuries and unavailabilities. CIYMS took the lead through a penalty from their No. 10 Michael McCombe. CI were dominating proceedings at this point and they added a converted try through Gilliland, the conversion and a further penalties from McCombe to leave the halftime score 16-0 against the home side. Soon after the break though the Dee enjoyed their best period of the game and after struck soon after the re-start with openside Matthew Stockton evading a number of tackles in the red zone and showing great strength to score to the left of the CIYMS posts – Nigel Barker converting the extras. The visitors were dominating the line-outs however and scored two converted tries which originated from lineout drives through Hodgen & McReynolds both converted by McCombe to complete a very efficient performance from CIYMS . Not the way then that the Dee would ideally have liked to end their Q1 campaign but minds, perhaps understandably, were elsewhere. Final score Donaghadee 7 CIYMS 28.
