Dee 1st XV opened their season with a training game against a strong Queens side at The Dub. In a game of four quarters the Dee were 10-0 up at the end of Q1, 10-7 up end of Q2, 14-10 end of Q3 finishing 28-10 down on full time. Missing quite a few regulars due to early season knocks and unavailability Head Coach Paul McKenzie took the opportunity of blooding a plethora of new recruits resulting in one of the youngest sides to turn out for the Dee in quite some years. Some great performances from both the more experienced guys on the field and the youngsters alike and Queens were maybe slightly flattered by two late scores taken when the Dee had a couple of players down injured on the field of play. The difference in the two sides probably proved to be the line out where Queens dominated for much of the game but there is much there for the team to build on prior to the first League game against CIYMS. Onwards and upwards towards the next pre-season friendly on Saturday at Carrick and in the meantime many thanks to Queens for hosting a very useful and entertaining game.
